4 tips for leveraging social media in the education sector

Posted 3 March, 2021

The education sector is a very niche market, so it’s important to go about your social media marketing the right way to maximise your reach and engagement. Don’t fear! We’re here to teach you a thing or two about leveraging your social media in the education sector.

We’ve learned some rate good stuff from working with our awesome clients such as BSquared (keep reading to hear more about them). Without further ado, here are our 4 top tips:

1. Know who you’re targeting

The education sector encompasses multiple groups of people such as; students, teachers, parents, SENCOs, education consultants etc… There are different ways to talk to and target each of these groups, so knowing who you’re targeting will make your content feel more personal. Creating a strategy around those you are targeting will also help you to perfect your message and engage with your audience.

2. Know where your audience are ‘hanging out’

All of these groups mentioned above will favour different places online; teachers tend to like twitter, parents are more likely to be on facebook and so on. Navigating the vast social media landscape is tough, and trying to be everywhere will be incredibly overwhelming. The best practice is to pick 1-2 platforms to start with and do them well. So, knowing which platforms your audience favours will give you an advantage.

3. Don’t sell 24/7

Social media is a great tool for shouting about your product/service but nobody wants to be sold to all the time. Mixing in some more general posts that will appeal to your audience will help build your following, engagement and trust. Try sharing relevant articles or videos that your audience will enjoy. In other words, social media posts with more active and thoughtful interactions will get more reach.

4. The power of building an audience

The market for products/services in the education sector is relatively small, so the growth of your social media will be slow and steady compared to the latest hair care brand favoured by millions of people. Cue our unsung friend, outreach. It may be time consuming, but spending 20 minutes a day having genuine, organic interaction with your audience can make all the difference. It doesn’t have to be related to your product, it’s all about building trust and engagement with your audience – have fun with it!

Working with BSquared…

We’ve been working with B Squared since 2019 and our work with them has continued to grow. We create and manage their social media content for their Virtual SEND Conference, Training for Education brands and SENDcast podcast. In fact, we have had SENDcast as a project since the beginning and we have loved every part of helping them grow the podcast from an idea all the way to 25,000 listeners in their first year.

We hope our tips give your business a boost. If you are looking for any more help, don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can also book a free 30 minute discovery call below. Let’s chat!
